Lecce Week Two

A Challenging Spiral Staircase

We had to change apartments as our first place had already been booked. Our new place is beautiful,  but beautiful things aren't always without "issues"
...starting with mis-communication between the host and his nonna who was to let us in. She thought we were arriving on Monday at 4 pm, when, in fact, we arrived on Sunday at 10 am. Then there was the bad plumbing, the plumber who never showed up,  and no WIFI. Our Italian is still pretty basic, and Nonna spoke no English, but somehow we managed, and everything is ok now. Marg did have to apologize to her for totally confusing two very different verbs. Trying to encourgage Nonna to go home and rest (riposare), Marg told her to go home and get married again (risposare). No wonder Nonna looked a little uncomfortable! That S makes a big difference!
Dancing at the Duomo

The historic area of Lecce really is a small town. Friendliness everywhere, and we've met some great people. And we continue to see them frequently as we wander about...various vendors, our host from our first apartment, our waiter from our favorite restaurant, a lovely couple from Vancouver, Canada, and recently, a couple from New South Wales, Australia. Jack is now giving directions, advice and recommendations to fellow travelers.

We will explore some nearby towns later this week. Ciao!

  1. Glad I didn’t have a mouthful of water when I read this, that verb comment had me howling!
Your accommodations look so beautiful even with those hiccups!
Enjoy and thank you for the photos too. Xoxo
