Six Nights in Napoli
We ferried 22 kilometers across the Bay of Naples and subwayed to our spacious apartment in the historic section of Naples. This city is much like New York, minus the over-the-top wealth of 
Manhattan. It's gritty, edgy, dirty....and mesmerizing. You could sit in a cafe and people watch all day. Mt Vesuvius threatens in the distance. It's overdue for what is predicted to be a serious eruption. Naples is Italy's third largest city and most densely populated. It is all about great food...not just pizza...and calcio, the Italian word for soccer. Its local team Società Sportiva Calcii Napoli, or SSC Napoli, won the 2023 Italian National Championship and the banners and street art show their pride. Napoli is close to the combined UNESCO sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum and other communities that were destroyed by the Vesuvius eruption of 79 AD. As we had visited Pompeii five years ago, decided to spend a morning at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli which houses artifacts found at those sites as well as other sites around Italy. 
An interesting exhibition at the museum was Il Gabinetto Segreto, The Secret Cabinet, devoted to Roman sexuality back in the day. Suffice it to say, they were pretty active. Here's an R-rated garden fountain with a cute little spigot.
